Having problems clipping puppy's nails?

I use a Dremel for my other dog, but my puppy doesn't like it. We couldn't even get 1 nail done.

Would he respond better to a nail clipper?

Part of the problem is he doesn't like being held down. We tried several different ways of keeping him calm, before finally we just had 2 people hold him down while a 3rd person went for his nail. And I think that might have worked but he squirted his anal gland stuff everywhere so we gave up. I don't want him to equate nail trimming to something bad and scary.

How do I get him used to getting his nails trimmed? He can't act like this when he's grown and weighs 60 pounds.Having problems clipping puppy's nails?
He may not like the sound of the Dremel. Try turning it on and holding it near him, while feeding him treats, so he is not afraid of the sound. The whole process must be positive, or else your boy will continue to fear it and make your life more difficult. If he can't seem to settle down with the Dremel, try a regular clipper. But if his problem is with you holding him down and touching his nails, a clipper won't be any better. So go in baby steps, with treats- first, hold him, and give treats. Let him smell the Dremel or clippers, more treats. Hold his paw, and give treats. Expose a nail, more treats. And when he does let you clip or file the nail, give tons of affection and treats.Having problems clipping puppy's nails?
hi,

Some dogs need a nail trim every month or so; others can go for several months without little or no trimming, usually because they do a lot of walking and running on hard surfaces.

here are some guidelines:

hope this helps.
